Kelvin entered the web industry working as an SEO/SEM Campaigner and Web Developer at Rotapix. Working freelance, he has created many internal custom web-based tools for clients, to aid in the operation of their businesses. In late 2006, he formed kii Design with Ben, and has since worked towards associating the brand with high quality, usable and effective websites.
Ben started in the industry as a Web Designer and Developer at Rotapix. He then joined Webhead, where he soon became Lead Web Developer. Having created countless websites, Ben is now an expert in front-end development, able to produce websites that load lightning fast, are interactive, and look consistent in a wide number of browsers.
We embarked on the kii Design adventure in 2006, working part-time alongside our University studies. kii Design represented an opportunity to create modern websites under our own brand that we could be excited about and proud of. It allowed us a welcome departure from the legacy technologies and practices prevalent in long-established web firms today (think Frontpage, tables and Flash), instead giving us the freedom to embrace high quality design and modern web coding best practices.
Web development is our passion. We keep up with news and trends, attend Web Standards Group (WSG) meetups, and discuss developments in the industry. We take pride in the fact that all our work makes use of best practices including such techniques as separate semantic HTML content from CSS styling, graceful degradation in browsers and load optimisation techniques. What this means is that the website will load fast, be scalable and will use server resources efficiently. Most importantly, maintenance and changes will be easy, as the initial effort has been put in to make the code robust.
